Footnote 1: According to Draper, Marx thinks that only propertyless wage labourers who produce surplus value and thereby generate profits for a capitalist are proletarians (Draper 1978, 34). Propertyless wage labourers that do not produce surplus value are therefore not proletarians, such as teachers employed in state funded schools or road construction workers hired directly by the state. The best evidence I have found to support this view is a single sentence in the Communist Manifesto which claims “the proletariat” are “the class of modern workers who live only so long as they find work, and who find work only so long as their labour increases capital” (Marx and Engels 1996, 7). For Marx only productive labour, in the sense of labour that produces surplus value, increases capital (Marx 1990, 644). This sentence in the Communist Manifesto could be interpreted as a generalisation, rather than an attempt to establish the necessary and jointly sufficient conditions for being a proletarian. The pamphlet is after all full of generalisations. Unfortunately Marx’s other statements on the subject are vague and could be interpreted as either saying that the proletariat only includes productive workers or that all propertyless wage labourers who sell their labour power to an employer (rather than selling a labour service directly to a customer) are proletarians irrespective of whether or not they produce surplus value (MECW 34, 444-45). In Capital Volume 3 Marx claims that “commercial wage-labourers employed by the merchant capitalist . . . do not directly produce surplus-value ” but do ultimately enable their employer to generate a profit. In a footnote Engels refers to such workers as “the commercial proletariat” (Marx 1991, 406-407, 414-15). In the absence of definitive evidence I am agnostic on the matter, but I could have missed an important source or not seen an important detail when reading.

    Interesting that Shapiro doesn't include class standpoints in his false analysis too. If he did then the boogyman or scapegoat, in his conception, would have to be, not the straight, white, cis, man, (as those are the identities that others do not inhabit and therefore can unite against the influence of which) but rather the capitalist, which would include working class people of all identities. Maybe it's because he doesn't want to make those connections for us... Lol

    Great theories but in practice, bookchin nihilist communes are probably even MORE susceptible to peak oil, scarcity, extreme weather events and unrests. Beneficial political organisation alone can't magically change an EROI, can't make ressources pop up, can't change the path of a tornado nor the path of an army. If you remember soviet russia, the narodniks and the de facto anarcho-agrarian communes were mopped up by the stalinists.

    It's a tragic thing that wokeology sometimes gets conflated with anticapitalism. Wokeology is actually narcissistic abuse, and capitalism, in some of their darkest forms. *I mean they/thems darkest form*. I've never heard a valid argument in favor of capitalism. Proponents of capitalism only ever try to implement gaslighting and/or logical fallacies. Really. Try to have a sane, civil, honest conversation with any proponent of capitalism, and they'll prove my point. But if you like all manner of products within the capitalist matrix, if you own a business, and have employees. and you still want a much more sane and harmonious economic system, You're Not A Fucking Hypocrite. Don't let them silence you with that weak argument . It would be just as ridiculous to argue that one is a hypocrite for drinking city tap water, when they had no other options , and therefore one shouldn't be able to consider better sources of water. Narcissistic personality disorder is an epidemic. And when they project "well the problem is nobody wants to work. " Ask them what landlords even fucking do . Ask them what the CEO of Starbucks actually does . Etc. No shade at seasons of nondoership. But shade @ projection. "so much depression, anxiety, stress & suicidality is caused by capitalism. we really really need to talk about how not being able to meet our basic needs and how giving away 80% of our days to jobs that drain & exploit us leads to serious mental health issues for a lot of people" - Alexis Isabel #yin #yang #ballance #unity #unitywithin But not so much #wokeology #medicalgaslighting And Indeed it's ridiculous for right-wingers to ✅✔️rightfully ✅☑️✔️✅ speak out against wokeology, but then turn a blind eye to circumcision.. indeed it's the exact same thing: mutiliation, medical gaslighting, completely unscientific but not in a spiritual way or anything like that. And indeed it's misandry. #intactivism

    I think I've decided anarchism is truly possible only on a small scale. Finding a large group of people who agree is next to impossible. However under true anarchism all points of veiw are valid. How can you be anarchist if you force an anarcho primitivist to be an anarcho syndicalist? Force being actual physical force, or even economic force, it's still coercion.

    • @HeyJinx
      @HeyJinx 22 дні тому

      Well a primitivim isn't actually anarchist and anarchism isn't inherently against coercion (despite what twitter and reddit faux anarchists have to say)

    19:09 I have learnt to only expect the word 'dissociation' to be used in a psychological context with a very negative implication so I find it really, really interesting to hear it used liked you did here. And I'm _thankful_ for that you did, because it makes me realise that heck, me recognising my dissociation and learning about my quite distinct parts ('I' here being a word used out of clarity and habituation) is... an anarchistic act, actually? Oh wow. It really is, when I think about it, because dissociation is not something I fear, for me it's clarity and organisation and makes me be better able to hear myself and the different and varying needs and thoughts I, we, have. No wonder it took just a few months to go from "I'm plural" to also realise I'm anarchistic. [Text brought to you by two very different alters from which one is why this text sounds far more formal than my writing usually does. Sorry about that.]

    This sounds a lot like the principles of governance utilized by the recovery group AA. It's literally written into the founding principles. AAs 12 Steps and 12 traditions are essentially a good starting point for functional anarchy in practice. It seems like it could adapted for the general public.

    Bakunin a Russian, held a “nativistic” antisemitism literally baked into every view of others not Russian. Bakunin was a prejudiced individual who unquestionably accepted the social norms of Russia Orthodoxy and Czarism. He never saw the disconnect between these ancient views and his beliefs that anarchism could liberate the mind.

    Wonderfully researched video as always! Though I don't really buy the intersectional argument you presented here anymore. It's absolutely true that a unified class is more powerful. But the In practice (at least in a conservative country like the US), the only options are being a small group with correct views on oppression, or appeal to the working class as a whole by adopting less progressive views. Importantly, if you choose the latter option, people in general won't listen to you because of their own partisan views.

    Very informative video. One recommendation, visualising stats and data would improve the video. When you were mentioning what percentage of the population worked in agriculture vs rural manufacturing vs urban areas, having graphs on the screen to show the data would make the information much more comprehensible. Similarly, when reading out dates, visualising that using a timeline would help a lot.

    Hm. I guess I'm of the opinion that majority votes should only represent a snapshot of people's viewpoints at a certain time. Consequently a very fluid system of consensus is needed and the body that votes should be able to create or dissolve policies and viewpoints at will. I'm thinking here strictly in the sense of polities, although one could argue that polities are not the ideal way of structuring society. On the other hand, when people live next to each other, it necessarily requires an agreement to behave civilly, so I struggle to imagine how society would function without at least a vague notion of polity. That being said, if all the members of a certain polity are okay with someone's actions that go against a wider resolution, I believe that would be the way in which certain resolutions are non-binding. It really comes down to what the grass roots community councils think, because they're in charge of their specific polities. So in that case, communities could pretty much run things how they wanted as long as there were a consensus within that community, and it would be no harm no foul
